Fri Aug 24 - Let's go!
Leaving the office at 4pm on a Friday tastes even better if it is to fly to Salt Lake City and get the vacation started!
Night: Hilton Salt Lake City Airport
Uscire dall'ufficio alle 4pm di venerdi suona ancora meglio, se e' per volare a Salt Lake City e iniziare le vacanze!
Sat Aug 25 - Salt Lake & Grand Tetons
We got our car (a Chevrolet Traverse, something that simply couldn't exist in Europe..), and started a quite long drive through Utah, Wyoming, Idaho and again Wyoming. To feel fashion even when hiking, we stopped at Patagonia and Black Diamond to buy some very cool mountain apparel.
We stopped at Jackson Hole, right before arriving at Grand Tetons, hoping to see Harrison Ford, who has a ranch down there, but no luck.
At Tetons, we enjoyed a nice Ranger talk, about the first pioneers that inhabited the mountains - not easy to live at 2500m in the late 1880s, with 9 months of snow and some nice horse poop to cover your walls and keep you warm o_O
Dinner: Signal Mountain Lodge Restaurant The Peaks, with elk and bison, in front of Jackson Lake
Night: Signal Mountain Lodge
Abbiamo preso la macchina a noleggio (un gigante che semplicemente non potrebbe esistere in Europa..), e iniziato la strada attraverso Utah, Wyoming, Idaho e ancora Wyoming. Per sentirci alla moda anche in montagna, ci siamo fermati da Patagonia e Black Diamond, per comprare scarpe e zaino veramente cool.
Ci siamo fermati a Jackson Hole, poco prima di arrivare a Grand Tetons, sperando di vedere Harrison Ford, che ha un ranch li, ma zero fortuna.
A Tetons, ci siamo goduti una lezioncina di un ranger, che ci ha raccontato la vita dei primi pionieri che abitavano quelle montagne - non era facile vivere a 2500m alla fine degli anni 1880, con 9 mesi di neve e un po' di sana cacca di cavallo per coprire le pareti di casa e tenerti al caldo o_O.

Sun Aug 26 - Grand Tetons
A nice walk on the Jenny Lake trail throught the Hidden Falls and with a very special encounter
The lodge organized a night under the stars: obviously it was cloudy, but we were able to see Mickey Mouse on the Moon - easy: 3 craters similar to his head and ears :)
Dinner: Signal Mountain Lodge Grill, with bison burger

Una bella passeggiata sul lako Jenny, attraverso le Hiden Falls e con un incontro molto speciale
L'albergo aveva organizzato una serata sotto le stelle: ovviamente il tempo era brutto, ma abbiamo visto Topolino sulla Luna - facile: 3 crateri simili alla sua testa e orecchie :)
Mon Aug 27 - Grand Tetons & Yellowstone
Another nice walk along the Taggart Lake trail, and we drove up to the Signal Mountain, where we had
another great encounter, and then we took the road to Yellowstone
Lunch: Signal Mountain Lodge Grill, on a very sunny and pretty lakeside
We drove all along the southern part of Yellowstone, then we went to Old Faithful, right on time to see him at full power and enjoy Inspiration point for the sunset
Dinner: Old Faithful Grill - and coming home we saw the Old Faithful by night: grand!

Un'altra bella passeggiata sul lago Taggart, per poi guidare fino alla cima della Signal Mountain, dove abbiamo fatto un altro bellissimo incontro, e poi siamo partiti per Yellowstone.
Dopo un pranzo in riva al lago Jackson, abbiamo attraversato tutta la parte sud di Yellowstone, per fermarci all'Old Faithful, giusto in tempo per vederlo in tutto il suo splendore, e goderci il tramonto da Inspiration point.

central parts

Abbiamo visitato l'Upper Geyser Basin, e poi siamo andati un po' a zonzo fino a Canyon Lodge, nelle zone sud-est e centrale del parco
Wed Aug 29 - Yellowstone
Some more driving and trailing around Yellowstone, in the north east and central parts to Mammoth Hotel
(nice but so creepy, with a very Shining-like corridor...), also taking a look at Gardiner, Montana

Ancora un po' di strada in macchina, a nord-est del parco fino al Mammoth hotel (molto carino, peccato per i corridoi bianchi e spettrali in stile Shining..), inclusa una puntatina a Gardiner, Montana
Thu Aug 30 - Yellowstone
Driving around, in the east part (even outside the park to follow bisons!) and north east
Dinner: at Gardiner, in the Cowboy's Lodge and Grille - so good elk buger and steak
Night: Mammoth hotel
Ancora in giro per il parco, nella zona est e nord-est questa volta, a caccia di bisonti
Fri Aug 31 - Yellowstone to Elko
Driving and driving, from the beautiful Yellowstone, passing by Idaho falls (well...), through Nevada's
desert, to Elko - yes, right in the middle of nowhere
Night: Hilton Garden Inn at Elko
Giornata in macchina, da Yellowstone, passando per le Idaho falls (vabbe'...), il deserto del Nevada, fino a Elko - esatto, proprio in mezzo al nulla
Sat Sep 01 - Elko, Lake Tahoe and Yosemite
Some more driving, all the way from Elko, to super touristic Lake Tahoe, to Yosemite, that we crossed
to reach our hotel, enjoying spectacular views at sunset (first of all, the half dome)
Lunch: on the beach at South Lake Tahoe
Dinner: at our not-at-all-kitch hotel in Oakhurst
Hotel: Best Western Plus Yosemite Gateway
Ancora un po' di macchina (e perche' no..), da Elko a Lake Tahoe (paradiso dei turisti), fino a Yosemite, che abbiamo attraversato tutto per arrivare al nostro hotel, catturando panorami spettacoli al tramonto (primo tra tutti l'Half Dome)

In one day we hit all the scenic points in the Yosemite Valley: the Yosemite Falls (actually with no water - summer gets very dry), the Bridalveil Falls (actually with little water), El Capitan, the Sequoias, Glacier point
Dinner: at Tenaya Lodge grill
Hotel: Best Western Plus Yosemite Gateway
In un giorno abbiamo girato tutti i punti piu' spettacolari della Yosemite Valley: le cascate Yosemite (ecco, a dire il vero senza acqua - l'estate e' davvero secca), le Bridalveil Falls (le cascate "Velo da Sposa", anche qui poca acqua purtroppo), El Capitan, le Sequoie giganti, Glacier point
Mon Sep 03 - Napa
We drove from Yosemite to Napa, where we visited the cute little town and stopped to have lunch in a very nice restaurant, Fish Story: one Michelin Star and very good wine
Dinner: Greystone Culinary Institute - don't be late, they're pretty severe with poor Europeans that book at 8.45pm and arrive at 8.50pm (ok, maybe 8.55..)
Night: Hillcrest country Inn bed and breakfast - creepy people but great view on the wineyards
Un altro po' di macchina da Yosemite a Napa, dove ci siamo fermati a visitare la cittadina (carinissima!) e pranzare in un ottimo ristorante (una stella Michelin, per chi e' interessato), Fish Story - ottimo vino
La cena, al Greystone Culinary Institute - non arrivate in ritardo, sono abbastanza severi con poveri Europei che prenotano alle 8.45 e arrivano alle 8.50 (vabbe', forse 8.55..)
Un carinissimo Bed and Breakfast per la notte, con vista sui vigneti - e vecchi Californiani un po' bizzarri

A day in Napa Valley: some wineyard visits (Beringer and Chandon) and some food from an organic market, before taking the road to San Francisco
We stopped at some key-and-mandatory places: Berkeley, Apple, Google, Stanford, Facebook
SF offered us a great Domino's pizza, to get ready for 4 days there, of which I will tell you more later on :)
SF Nights: Grant Hotel
Un giorno nella Napa Valley: un po' di vino (Beringer e Chandon - molto marketing, poca sostanza) e un po' di cibo da un supermercato organico, prima di partire per San Francisco
Tappe obbligate: Berkeley, Apple, Google, Stanford, Facebook
Arrivati a San Francisco, una pizza di Domino's ci ha ridato un po' di energie per visitare San Francisco in 4 giorni, di cui vi raccontero' al piu' presto :)
